How to Integrate Microsoft Entra ID With BarTender Cloud

Overview

This article will teach you how to connect your Microsoft Entra ID account with BarTender Cloud to serve as an identity provider.

Configuring Entra ID

New Application Registration

  1. Log in to Azure Services and select Microsoft Entra ID.

  1. Navigate to App registration, and then New registration.

  1. Provide a name for the application and choose Accounts in this organizational directory only.
  2. Set the Redirect URI to Web and provide a redirect URI that points to your BarTender Cloud tenant (for example, https://tenantname.am1.bartendercloud.com/signin-callback).
  3. Click Register.

  1. After pressing Register, you should see a page similar to the one below. Record the Application (client) ID and Directory (tenant) ID. These values will be used by BarTender Cloud.

Generating a Client Secret

  1. Click Add a certificate or secret and then New client secret.

  1. Enter a description and lifetime for the secret. Once this lifetime expires, you will need to generate a new secret for use with your application.
  2. Your secret will be generated, as shown below.

Make sure you copy the Value at this point, as you will not be able to access this page later.

Configuring API Permissions

Next, we will define API permissions. This defines what operations the application can perform.

  1. Navigate to API permissions and select Add a permission.

  1. Select Microsoft Graph.

  1. Select Delegated Permissions. Select Email, OpenID, and Profile permissions
  2. Press the Update Permissions button.

Token Configuration

  1. Select Token configuration. 
  2. Click Add optional claim.
  3. Check the email checkbox and hit Add.

When configuring the Microsoft Entra ID login provider from Account Management or adding this provider from API, the Application (Client) ID, Directory (Tenant) ID, Client Secret, Redirect URI, and instance URL (https://login.microsoftonline.com) will be needed.

Integrating BarTender Cloud

Starting on the BarTender Cloud Home page, after logging in:

  1. Navigate to Administration> Security > Identity Providers > Add Identity Provider using the left-hand sidebar.
  2. Click the Set Up button next to Microsoft Entra ID.

  1. Fill out the required fields on the Add Identity Provider page.
    1. Click Learn more about connecting your identity provider for help with and additional information about filling out the required fields.
    2. Once you're finished, click Test Connection.
    3. If the test is successful, the Create Connection button will turn blue, and you can finish creating your connection.
