Keep Track of Inventory Assets with Track & Trace
Overview
Inventory maintenance requires the systematic tracking of asset identity, status, movement between zones within a location as well as shipment across different locations. The Track & Trace mobile application supports this requirement by enabling real-time asset identification through scanning, easily capturing asset events whenever items are moved, modified, or handled. These events are recorded in a centralized data repository and integrated with downstream systems to maintain an end-to-end, auditable record of asset movement and state throughout the supply chain.
This article will provide a guide on how to use the Track & Trace mobile app to manage items in your inventory.

On-Site Asset Search
Search enables you to locate assets and view their positions on the store map. Assets can be found by entering a product reference, scanning a barcode (EAN/GTIN/SKU), or reading an RFID tag (if available).
Geiger mode is an optional feature that requires a connected RFID reader. While not mandatory for standard operations, Geiger mode can detect the hand-held's proximity to the specified asset. While in Geiger mode, press the trigger on the RFID hand-held and move closer to the asset to search for it. Visual cues will indicate your proximity to the asset:
The color scheme is as follows:
- Red: Far
- Yellow: Nearby
- Green: Very close
You can search for a product as follows:
- Tap Search.
- Select a Tag Type to scan.
- Laser: Used for scanning barcodes, QR codes, etc.
- RFID: For reading RFID tags (if selected, you will need to connect your RFID hand-held to the application).
- Provide the identifier: manually input or scan using phone camera/RFID hand-held.
- Tap any of the zones to view it on the map:
- Tap the Locate in [zone] to use Geiger mode to locate the physical asset.
- When using RFID, Geiger mode will indicate your proximity to the asset.
Get Asset Details
- Tap Check.
- Select a Tag Type to scan.
- Laser: Used for scanning 2D Barcodes.
- RFID: For reading RFID tags (if selected, you will need to connect your RFID hand-held to the application).

- The Details view for that asset should appear on screen.
- At the bottom of the view you can tap Events to get a trace of the asset's life cycle, or Locate This Product, to see in which zone it is located.
Update an Asset
Every time an asset is scanned its zone and status are registered as well. This means that these datapoints are automatically updated as the asset is handled by the operator to partially automate inventory management.
This can happen for example, as the operator scans the asset in a particular zone:
Make sure the RFID hand-held is connected to the application.
Tap Inventory.
- Tap Change Zone to select the zone you are going to scan:
- Tap Continue to open the inventory screen and then Start to begin scanning.
- Once you have finished scanning the zone, tap Stop:
- Once you hit the Sync button, Track & Trace will update the inventory with your latest scan.
It can also happen more intentionally, as the operator moves an asset to a zone for a particular purpose:
Make sure the RFID hand-held is connected to the application.
Tap Edit Items.
Choose Single or Bulk depending on the number of assets you plan to update.
- Tap the Change Zone button to select your zone.
- Press and hold the trigger on the RFID reader to scan your asset.
- Tap on Disposition at the bottom to change the asset status:
