How to throw an error in an integration

I am creating a file integration, and under certain application conditions I want to abort the processing and invoke the error handling of the file detection configuration.
How can I “throw” an error to force the error handling to kick in?

  You could maybe configure the number of copies in the label to 0 in a set/configured circumstance
