Horizontal white line sometimes appears when printing a label with an .ai file as the embedded background

This is a bit of a weird one, and I'm not sure where to start troubleshooting. Any suggestions are welcome.

My workplace uses BarTender Designer 2019 R8. All our labels use embedded images for backgrounds, usually in .ai (Adobe Illustrator proprietary) format. All our labels look fine on-screen, but occasionally will print with a horizontal white line cutting through them, as if the label has been cut into pieces and the pieces pulled slightly apart.

So far, this seems to be solvable by swapping out the background for a .png file, which gives us a workaround. I don't know how to tell whether the image format of the background is really the issue, or whether it might be a physical issue with the printer, or something else! Has anyone encountered anything like this?

  You may try enabling the "advanced printing features" option for the specific printer you are using in the Windows control panel -> devices/printers -> right click the printer being used -> select printer properties -> advanced tab to see if this may help.
