Is it possible to place a link to a pdf file on a QR code? What I would like to do is have a QR code that I can scan via smart phone or tablet and for that to bring up a PDF of a manual.

  Yes, it is possible to create a QR code which when scanned, will open a PDF file on your system. Are you just wishing to know how you would need to format your QR code data source, or are you having problems when your device reads the bar code?
