Strange behavior installing Bartender via Intune
Hi everyone,
I’m running into a strange issue when deploying BarTender (v11.5) through Microsoft Intune. The installation never completes when executed via Intune — it consistently stops halfway (around the same number of installed items each time). No errors are shown, but the installation never finishes properly.
What's confusing is that the exact same command installs BarTender perfectly when I run it manually:
- Via standard PowerShell
- Via PSExec (SYSTEM + interactive)
- Via a direct command line
- Via PSAppDeployToolkit (PSADT)
In all these scenarios, the installer runs to completion with no issues.
But as soon as the command runs inside Intune’s SYSTEM context, the installation stops part‑way and leaves BarTender in an incomplete state.
I’ve tried:
- Running the installer directly
- Running it through PSADT (both v3‑style and v4‑style entrypoints)
- Running via PowerShell scripts
- Staging the installer locally first
- Increasing install timeout
- Different silent parameters
Nothing seems to help — Intune simply never lets the setup finish.
Before I give up:
Has anyone else seen this incomplete‑install behavior with BarTender in Intune?
Any tips, tricks, or reliable workarounds would be very helpful.
Thanks in advance!
