Conceptual Overview...

Can someone tell me if this may be reasonably accomplished ?  Or should I consider another approach ?

 

I am brand new to using BarTender.

 

I would like to implement the following concept...

 

 

This is a GHS project. 

 

Would like to use an integrated approach (C# program that does the following)...

 

Flow would be ERP data to C# to BarTender.

 

I would pass key data to the C# program from the ERP via command line array.

 

(Data passed = Chemical code, Number of copies to print, plus some other parameterized data) 

 

Use the data passed in the array to connect to a SQL database and create a class that contains the data to be used in the label.

 

Use this data to populate the "fields" in the label  (I think they may be called substrings in BarTender ?)

 

In addition to this, there will be data to designate which printers will be used (based on the Chemical code).

 

In addition, one or more GHS pictograms may be required on each label (based on the Chemical code).

 

Are these things that BarTender handles gracefully at runtime ?

 

Finally - send the label to the Queue for printing. 

 

One last note, are there any completed (end to end) .net sample projects available for download ?

  I think your approach to integrating the ERP to BarTender is overly complex.  A better way is to have the ERP output a file or send a network message containing there print job parameters and data, but then instead have the Commander middleware application detect the message and produce a print job from it.  Commander can handle each aspect of what you mention above in terms of integration.  See the below white paper:

  Concerning the GHS label itself, you'll be please to learn that already we have a white paper and example that handles this including the dynamic placement and sizing of GHS pictograms on the design based on the variable chemical products the labels are being printed for.  See the below link:
