Getting an image from the web service

Hi,

For a project I'm working on, we want to put an image of a barcode on scanned documents. Until know people were printing labels and sticking them on  the document and scanning them. 

We want to automate this process so people only have to scan the document and the code will put a barcode on  the scanned document.

In order to do this, I would like to use the web service to create an image of the barcode.

Is is possible to have the web service return an image as a base64 encoded string, and preferrably without saving the image first and reading it from file.

  Could you use the scanner interface in BarTender and scan the code into a BarTender label that has the barcode on it and then print it from there? 

  The scanner interface can be found in the Picture object settings
