Something funny with windows 8 drivers?

 

Upgraded workstations to win8 a while back (from XP).

 

Since then, fomerly rock-solid Zebra printer has been having "issues".

 

Always used the Zebra XP driver with no problems. Since moving to Win8, it started acting up: would not print more than 28 labels, no matter how many were in a print run, it would always stop at 28. No error message! Just truncated the print job cleanly. Talked to Zebra who advised we change to the Seagull driver.

 

The Seagull driver solved the "stop printing at 28" issue. We can print a run of 40 bar code labels now.

 

BUT - recently discovered that the Seagull win8 driver seems to have issues too!
 

Print run of 50 or 60 labels will mysteriously SKIP labels at random!!!

 

Last two runs...

1) skipped 7, 10, 14, 19, 22, 25, 31, 38

2) skipped 11, 15, 34, 39, 41, 46 

 

Using Zebra EPL Driver

 

Version 7.3.5

Build Target Win32

Build Date 4/15/2014, 4:10 PM

 

 

I think we can rule out applications as a cause, since 

 

1. all pages do show in the print preview
2. printing to a PDF doesn’t skip any pages.

  How do you connect to the printer? By Serial (COM), Parallel (LPT), USB or LAN(TCP/IP)?

  have you changed connection method from XP?

  What happens when you change the connection method?

   

  When serial(com) port setup is wrong, such things might happen. Print configuration label from printer properties > Tools > Print,

  and see actual port setup in printer's side, then match windows's port settings. (I would switch to USB though)
