use information from database (using DB connection setup) in vbscript

If I have made the database connection (SQL) where I get serial number that are printed, can I use the info in my script too or do I need to make a separate connection to the database in the script?
User enters Work order number when printing and it prints the serial numbers to lables correctly. But the problem is I need to use the info for checking too. I get serial numbers and product number from database (only serial number goes on the lable) but I need to check that info (prompt to user if product number is correct and check the serial numbers if they are in another database).
I can do the script for it but question is how do I get the info from database. Can I use the set up connection? If so, can I get all lines at once or do I need to get them one by one in PostProcess? Or do I need to set up another connection in the script? In that case, how can I get the Work Order that was entered in query prompt?
