No Data From Excel File Showing

What am I doing wrong? I made a excel sheet with A1-A99, B1-B99 etc all the way to Z I want each sequential label to have a different number from that database When I drag and drop my number column onto a text object, it just says "field:Barcode$Barcode" How do I make it show the actual data?

  In BarTender 9.4 or later, you can show database value in design time by clicking small tin icon with red dot at left bottom of design view, left of "Record:". 

  Click the icon to toggle showing field name and record data.

  For BarTender 9.4 or before, you need to show print preview to check database data.

  Make sure you close Excel sheet in MS Excel, before connect by BarTender.
