BarTender 11.8 crashes when trying to restore broken database connections
Hi. I have several labels designed in BarTender 8.01 or 2022, which worked in BarTender 2022 but no longer work after updating to BarTender 11.8. I get error message #6236 as follows:
- Print Job Aborted. The record set could not be created due to the following:
Keyword not supported: 'connectonopen'
Upon investigation, I discovered that the label's connection to the database is broken. Every attempt to reconnect it just causes BarTender to crash.
I raised a support ticket a couple of days ago but BarTender's support technicians have gone quiet on me. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so have they found a solution? Is it a new bug in 11.8? Do I need to roll back to 11.5, 11.4 or 2022?
Thank you.

Have you tried opening BarTender Designer and creating a new blank label and see if that links to the database correctly or else you could open a save the database under a different name and see what that does with a new and then one of your existing labels.

I did try connecting a new label, and it was fine. At least one other pre-existing label with a similar connection was also ok, although not all of them; at least three label files were affected.
I did try saving under new filenames. I also tried extracting the relevant data to a new, much smaller database and connecting to that, but to no avail. Any attempt to edit the database connections in affected label files just caused BarTender Designer to crash.
In the end we resolved it by rolling back to BarTender 2022 R8. While we were doing that, Seagull support did get back to me and confirmed it was a bug introduced in BarTender 11.4 which had been previously reported but not yet resolved. I feel other users should be made aware of this.
