Serilization is lost when i change the value in the field

Serilization is lost when i change the value in the field where it is applicable to:

After changing the value serilization setting is lost:

How do i set this up that the serilization setting is not lost on changing the value in the field?

  I think you are editing the value in the text field on the label itself which is also changing its properties but just a static field. You need to either go into the Properties of the file and change the value in there or else you could link the starting value to a Data Entry field box so the user enters the value at print time in there.

  

  or you could add a separate field that the operators can edit and then make your serial number field and Object Value type linked to this new field. You could then move the serial number item to a new layer and lock that so that it cannot be edited to prevent the operators from adjusting that. The image below shows the SerialNumber layer unlocked so you can see the properties of the field. When you click the padlock it will turn red and you can no longer access these details unless you unlock it first
