Different Label Sizes In One Print Job

One full-page header form (picking order) has to be followed by a variable number of small price labels, 15 per page. After printing both the laser printer has to set a staple in the completed stack for better handling. Therefore it is necessary to combine both outputs to a single print job, because the printer sets a staple after each job.

 

It seems to be impossible to combine pages of different label size inside one .btw-layout. So I tried the Batch Maker, that indeed prints both .btws in one step, but still in TWO print jobs, so that I get a staple in the picking order and another staple in the price label pages, instead of one in the complete stack.

 

Can I advise the Batch Maker to combine both .btws to a single print job instead of two ones? Or is there another idea to combine two layouts with different page sizes to a single print job?

  You can do this with layers if you have 10.1.

   

  Set the template size of your document to match the size of those small price labels, and make the design of those labels on one template. Then add 15 empty templates at the beginning of your document (Page setup -> templates tab -> start of job templates) you literally have to add 15 empty templates, I haven't found a way to print one empty template multiple times. At this point you have 1 empty page followed by pages of those price labels.

   

  Now go to Page setup -> Page tab and activate Page template. Then make a new layer on page template and design your header page on that layer.

   

  To make bartender print that layer only on page 1. Add a named data source and name it Page (for example). Make the type of that data source print job field, and select the source to be the page.

   

  Now go to options of the layer you designed the header on, and config it to conditionally print only when Page = 1.

   

  Voila!

  Thanks antilat1, that works fine. The start-of-job templates and the page template are the important steps.

   

  If you have to print only variable data on the header page, you don't need that conditional layer at all. Instead you can provide only one line of header data, so that the page template is empty for the following pages.

   

  The trick was that the page template is a feature coming with 10.1 ...
