Bartender Does Not Print Because It Can't Contact The Licensing Server???
Hi,
we use a command-line commando from within an hta-script to make Bartender print a label to finalise the deployment of a pc. This worked for almost a year, until our virtual machine crashed. We reinstalled the VM, re-activated the license (thank your people of the SupportDesk) and thought everything would be OK.
But it is not.
We now get the message that the application tries to connect to the licensing server. If no contact is possible, it does not print. Is this a new feature? We surely didn't have this issue before the crash...
This is the commando we run from a script : "C:\Program Files (x86)\Seagull\BarTender Suite\bartend.exe /AF=C:\Bartender\Layout\SMALL_LABEL_80_20MM.BTW /D=C:\Bartender\Database\pcname.db /P /X /C=1"
Now, this pc is behind a proxy of course. How do solve this problem?

Hm
According to the documentation, the internet connection doesn't need to be maintained after activating. Well, why does it keep connecting then????

OK, I've got it, up to a certain point anyway.
So when you install BT fhe first time, it needs internet to activate the license (on Seagull's servers).
But every time you print, it starts looking for the Seagull Licesing Server (SLS). But where is this SLS ? It should be on the network, according to the documentation. Yeah, but where are the installation files???
Anyway, still can't print anything....

OK, started "add and remove programs" and clicked "change" on Bartender 10. It showed me a list of about 15 modules and SLS was one of them. About three modules were selected, but SLS wasn't ! So I selected it and continued the wizard.

As you have found out, the Automation Editions of BarTender require a central piece of software called Seagull License Server to be installed and activated (just on one PC / Server of your network). All BarTender clients will then attempt to reach this central Seagull License Server over UDP port 5160 (by default). You could even configure how BarTender finds Seagull License Server via the "Administer > Licensing Setup" dialog in BarTender.
