Commander: Csv Files With Serial Number In Title

Hello.

 

I am using BarTender 10.1 SR.3 with Excel. I am exporting data to a csv-file using Excel VBA, catching it with Commander and printing with a lable designed in BarTender.

 

That works well, if the file always has the same name, ex.: "data.csv".

 

However due to logging issues I would like to name my files like this: "data batch52012.csv" where 52012 is a serial number from my data in excel. The files would not nessesarily have consecutive numbers but numbers depending on the excel data.

 

I can catch the file "data batchxxxxxxx.csv" using Commander without problems using "data*.csv" and use Commander to trigger Bartender to print it.

 

However I cannot setup a data connection in BarTender to a file that does not have a specific filename - ie data*.csv does not work.

 

What to do?

  Hello Michael,

  In case you're using Commander, In BarTender's label design, database file's name doesn't really matter - text database file are replaced at print time.

  So, just connect to a dummy text database ("sample.csv" etc) at design time.

   

  Perhaps I'm off the point -in that case, please tell me some more detail with why you need that.
