You should not be using "Code 39 Full ASCII Conversion" mode unless your system and codes require it. The data "JL00000-000" does not require Full Ascii encoding.

I would try disabling this again, or even defaulting all your scanner settings, and continuing your test.

I set the gun to default and it didnt work.

The other tests that I did were Enabling code 128, UCC/EAN-128, Code 39 Any Length, Code 39 Full ASCII. None of which allowed the decode of a -000. All of them allowed the decode of just a dash and single digit.

What are you scanning into? If none of the barcode types read the data appropriately, it might be what application you're scanning into, not the scanner itself.

I am testing by scanning into Notepad.

I can get it to decode a single number after the dash, but not 3 numbers after the dash.

I have also tried creating barcodes that are variable lengths with 1, 2, and 3 characters after the dash. For example JL01-00, JL01-000, JL02883-00 and none of them will decode. It will only decode a single character after the dash. It also doesnt seem to matter what character starts after the dash. I know in some cases a 0 can be an end signal.

Can you scan the barcodes correctly by using a smartphone scanning application? This would confirm the codes are good. If so:

Are you sure you don't have any "Rules" set in your scanner? You can find this in the manual (I think Chapter 14), and find a code to "Erase All Rules" just to be sure.

If the problem persists, it is a question for your scanner reseller or to Symbol technical support.
