Print Box 1 Of X With Textfile As Datasource
Hello everybody,
I'm trying to use the serialisation function with a text file, but Bartender does not reset the serialized field.
What I have is a file that looks like
1;John Wayne
2;Kirk Douglas
1;Humphrey Bogart
The number is the number of Boxes. And I need "Box 1 of x" on every label.
So in this example I need 4 Labels:
Box 1 of 1 John Wayne
Box 1 of 2 Kirk Douglas
Box 2 of 2 Kirk Douglas
Box 1 of 1 Humphrey Bogart
I tried to use the serialization, but what I get is:
Box 1 of 1 John Wayne
Box 2 of 2 Kirk Douglas
Box 3 of 2 Kirk Douglas
Box 4 of 1 Humphrey Bogart.
BT does not reset the serialization - how do I manage this ?

Hello,
Could you let me know what version and edition of BarTender are you working with? Note that on our latest version we greatly improved our serialization feature and we now support resenting a serial number upon new records.
In any case, this can also be done through an event based VB script.
If you have an older version I can send you a simple example on how to get it done.

We use Bartender 10.0 SR4

I've attached a BarTender document sample for you to examine. Copy the database file to "c:\Seagull". You will see that for the X data source from "X of Y" I've used an Event Based VBScript, mainly on "OnNewRecord" and "OnSerialize" events.
Please let me know if the sample works correctly for you.

Have in mind that in newer versions of BarTender this feature exists out of the box (including several reset options for the serialization).
