Not Sure If Possible But Here Goes.
First Hello Forum,
There are a lot of good questions and answers here I am hoping some of you may be able to assist me in a solution to my conundrum.
I am currently trying to advocate to my employer the importance of moving to a barcode system for material transactions my specific part in this at the moment is on the shipping and recieving end of the materials world. I have gotten my boss and his boss on board but am trying to build a label that they want to implement into a company wide standard label.
I have one designed and built up in 10.1 trial but if I am unable to link it to the excel spread sheet we have to properly pull the information I won't be able to get them to buy into this. I know eventually once we get corporate funding and approval we will also have oracle implementation available. But to get it functional and to show how much time can be saved being able to use an excel spreadsheet generated from an oracle discoverer inquiry is the best I can manage for access to oracle at the moment.
Ok basic layout of the label and the design we are looking for. (any tips or constructive criticism is welcome)
Item number (including barcode)
Quantity (manually entered initially)
UOM Unit of Measure (pulled from spreadsheet using part #)
Item description (pulled from spreadsheet using part #)
Is inspection required (y/n pulled from spreadsheet using part #)
Date (auto generated through clock function)
Purchase order number (pulled from spreadsheet using part #)
ok that is the basic layout they can obviously go anywhere on the label and i have switched them around to try to make the most use of the space at hand.
My problem is linking this information to the spreadsheet ( kinda ) I have the basic understanding of doing it and it displays the first number in the sheet as well as the relevant information for each column of information However when I try to choose input method for the part number as we will need to either scan or manually enter the number then have it retrieve that parts data from the sheet I get stuck.
Possible useful information
Computer is running windows 7 pro
bartender is 10.1 trial
Excel version 2007
Part numbers are mostly numeric but some are alphanumeric
some part numbers feature decimals ie.. 006002.01.
Any help anyone here is willing to offer is greatly accepted this implementation will free up a lot of wasted manual entry and hand writing out box labels.
Thanks for taking the time to read this I appreciate your comments or advice.

In the database setup there is a tab for query. you will need to set up a new query for the item number. Then at print time the user will be promted for the item number and as long as all your fields are set up correctly the document will pull all the informaiton.
