Find External Image On Network
The Scenario:
I have a Bartender template that has an image which is placed at the top. The image is an 'External Picture File' and needs to access a .jpg which is located on a networked drive. I have my default path set to 'DriveLetter:\MyPath\' and have checked the format is correct. The image gets the file name from a database, which contains the format 'Name.jpg'. The database gets its data from an external text file which is loaded into BarTender via Commander. For reference I am running the latest version of Bartender.
Image --> Database.Field --> External.txt saved upon scanning serial port.
The Problem:
When I use commander to load the filename into the database in the template, I receive error message #3608 claiming that that the file could not be found in the pathway 'DriveLetter:\MyPath\Name.jpg'. However if I open up BarTender with the database connected the image file loads and try to print preview or even print, the image is found successfully.
If I setup the External Picture File to have a default path which exists in my local machine, Commander has no problem handling it. I can print the template and find the external image. Problems seem to arise when using Networked Drives / Servers on the network to find the image.
I hope there is no ambiguity in the description of the problem.

Hi Dan,
If you use the path format 'DriveLetter:\MyPath\Name.jpg' it will not be recognized by Commander running as a service. Indeed, mapped network driver letters are references for us to be able to sort through our network drives but they do not exist in a service context. If you run Commander as an application however, he should be able to pick it up.
As I suppose you need to run Commander as a service, here is what you need to do: Share the concerned directory over your network and set in your external image object the path (In the default path from the database): \\ComputerName\SharedFolderName\Name.jpg and it should work fine.

I'd like to say thank you for the quick response! I completely missed that. I also managed to find an alternative solution by making use of Librarian. Both methods work and the problem is solved, thanks again.
