Creating custom stock sizes should create a "CustomStock.stk" file in the "C:\ProgramData\Seagull\BarTender" folder by default.  The file name location can be set via the "Administer>Folder and file locations setup" menu item.  Problems could be caused by lack of permissions over the file/folder for your user.

Thanks for the quick reply, Ian.

I checked my permissions and the file, and they appear fine.

I even watched the .stk file in Sublime Text after I created some new stock types and saw the file update.

I then closed BT and re-opened it. The .stk file still shows my custom types, but they aren't visible from the Category drop-down menu.

Hmm, dunno then.  I suggest you log a ticket with tech-support: http://www.seagullscientific.com/support/technical-support/

I trust you're running BarTender 2016 R2 which is the current release at time of writing?

Actually I'm on BT 2016 R1. I'll see if updating fixes it. If not, I'll log a ticket. Thanks again!

Hooray! I upgraded to R2 (from R1) just now and it resolved the issue! Custom types are now showing up properly.

Actually, they persist now but there are bugs; creating a new stock type of, say, 3"x3" won't work; it takes a previous custom stocks dimensions as soon as it's saved :(

    opening a ticket.
