In the sample BarTender components in the Toolbox ("Components>Samples>Serialization") you will find a "Label X of Y" component example that can be dragged and dropped onto the label. This is a simple example for such a requirement. For your particular need, I would guess that you use the OnNewRecord event to set the value of the database field containing the quantity for the record.

    Hello,

I have the same issue but I don't see a components > samples > serialization? Maybe our bartender is too old? I can't seem to figure out how to get my serialization number to reset when the qty of that equals the qty of the amount of labels for that item which I have set for Y.

    Does the below topic help?

In previous versions of BarTender, for resetting a serial number once it has reached Y, you will need to use some VBScripting. In the latest version of BarTender (v10.1) it is pretty easy: you just enable the "Reset serial number after every print job" checkbox in the serial number configuration.
