Gs1 Datamatrix
I am trying to create a new GS1 Datamatrix barcode and the FDA standard wants the expiration date to be set up as YYYYMMDD. I cannot seem to figure out how to do this using the application identifier. The GS1 Expiration date identifier is set up to be 6 digits not 8 digits. Any help on this would be great
Thanks

<p>The FDA UDI standard uses Application Identifier 17, which is YYMMDD. This is part of the GS1 standard, and isn't a variable length field. It looks on GS1 barcodes datasource, you should keep AI 17 (YYMMDD) format- YYYYMMDD format is for text on the label, from GS1 FAQ below.
Is the U.S. FDA noted date format of “YYYYMMDD” apply to the human readable text only and does it need to apply to the Product Identifier (PI)? KBA-01741-X8G2H9 Answer Yes. This date format is only for the human readable text which is not the “HRI” under or near the bar code. It also does not apply to the format of the data encoded into the bar code.0 -
