    The simplest way would be to use the Character Template option accessible from the Human Readable tab of the barcode. 

    Any letters and numbers you type in here will show in the Human Readable but are not encoded in the barcode and you can also do things like add brackets, spaces and dashes etc. such as in the image below where the barcode encodes 12345678 and the HELLO ( - ) are just in the readable string below.
