Bartender .btw File in Notepad - Bartender 2019 R5 - Automation Version
Hello,
After creating the label template using Bartender 2019 version, I had placed the file on a public folder (that is the requirement). This file was opened by a user who did not have Bartender installed. But the strange thing is - he could open it in notepad. And was able to add few characters in that inspite of having the password protection. This was a test we were doing to avoid such issue in future after going live.
How do we avoid such situation?
Thanks in advance.

It maybe you need to check out the information on the Librarian companion application. With this the file is saved into a central System Database and you set a process through the restricts who can open and print and/or open and edit etc. The label formats are locked in all other cases and not accessible although this requires the Enterprise and Automation edition.

Hi,
Thanks for a prompt response. We are working on 2019 R5 Automation version. So, check out is not an option.

Okay.
A label file maybe password protected in BarTender itself, but that protection only applies whilst using the program.
Most of the information in the BTW files will be in code anyway and if I open a file in Notepad and edit it you will probably find the file no longer opens in BarTender (from testing here mine came up with an incorrect version message and would not open).
As well as Password protecting the file, making the users use the Print Station application is also another good layer of security rather than via Designer. With Print Station all the operators can do is print entering only data that would have made amendable at print time, such fields linked to Data Entry Form items or database queries/filters.
