Version 9.3 is not compatible with Server 2012 as this came in from V10.0 (2 releases after yours) and 10.1 for 2012R2.

    https://support.seagullscientific.com/hc/en-us/articles/360016328974-Windows-Version-Compatibility-with-BarTender

It could be that it will run on a 2012 server but it will not have been fully tested and so there is no guarantee of this.

Also due to the age of the software there is no longer a direct upgrade path available from this version of BarTender as it has been out of support for a number of years (May 2015) and so you would need to purchase a brand new licence of the latest version (BarTender 2019).

The upgrade process would depend on how your system is configured and whether you are using any of the Automation features, such as the Commander utility to automate the printing process which perhaps your Help Desk team would be able to confirm. If not then you would need to install the Licence program (2019 no longer uses Licence Server) on a different server and upgrade/replace the BarTender client installations to the new version to look for the this new licence, although in most instances this is located automatically I have found so far. There should not be an issue with compatibility with your existing labels and the only issues I have come across personally have been with text wrapping on one/two labels for one particular client and re-establishing some database connections for a few installs

    I hope this makes sense.

    Pete.

    Thanks for the info!

I'm a little confused on part of that, however.

You mention that 2019 doesn't use the License Server. I skimmed the documentation and it looks like the licensing is per printer. That makes it sound like there is no "server" required, just clients? But you mention installing the License program and replace the BarTender client installs. Perhaps I'm just misreading; can you clarify?

We're probably looking at doing this very soon, as 2008R2 is about to have the plug pulled.

The Licence Server application is no longer used with the licence now being part of the Administration Console application and so this needs to be installed on a central server (or a PC that will always be on when you are printing) and the BarTender client installs also use Administration Console that connects up to the central version.

I cant remember if Admin Console was part of 9.3 or was a later addition but the functionality of this has grown through the versions and the automated printing I mentioned above (previously via Commander) is now controlled by this too although you configure it via Integration Builder which was added in v2016.
