Slow Printing Until I Print From Legacy System
Bit of a puzzling one this for me, I'd appreciate any help or suggestions.
I am installing a BarTender system to replace a legacy labelling system based on Softlight. At present I have both systems connected to a single Zebra XiII printer serially through a switch box to allow my users to progressively change to the new system as we move the labels across.
All is working fine apart from one issue .....
When we start everything up on a morning (PCs and Printer) if I print from the BarTender system first then the print speed is quite slow. It is not related to fonts/images etc. It is a uniform speed but about half the usual speed. Now if I switch to the legacy system and print out a single label the switch back, the labels come out at the expected pace. Whilst this is a bit irritating at the moment, obviously we don't want to have to keep the legacy system just to print one label at the start of every day to get the printer up to speed :)
I have tried setting the print speed in the driver settings for the printer to no avail. I have also tried sending a ^XA^PR8,8,8^XZ command to the printer as a user command at start of job (again in the printer driver settings) but that didn't help either.
I am using the Seagull Zebra Printer Drivers.
I am unable to look at detailed configuration of the printer on the old legacy system as it is running Windows 3.1! and I have not found any way to look at such information from within the Softlight software either.
Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Make sure you set the printing preferences for your BarTender document via the "Print" dialog and the "Document Properties" button as this is where you can change the settings for how the BarTender label prints. These settings are saved as part of the document file. It sounds like you're adjusting only the general settings from the "Devices and Printers" window of Windows which will have no effect on how an already created document will print.

Ian - Thanks so much for that help. I have amended the settings for the document to increase the print speed and it works perfectly.
