How To Start A Vb Script

I am using Bartender 9.3

 

Here is what I hope to accomplish:

 

I have a label with a prompt before the label is printed.  One of my inputs is a part number, but I don't want the part number on my label.  I want the description of the part number on the label.  Example:If I enter '1", the label prints "A".  If I enter "2", the label prints "B".  etc

 

Q1: Will VB scripting get me where I want to go?

Q2: If yes, how do I even start VB scripting?  Are there examples?

Q3: The UPS Domestic label format seems to have VB scripting.  I can't figure out where the script is located or even how it is utilized.  31 fields doesn't help either.

Q4: Not my preference, but can VB scripting work with Database fields?

  You should watch the training videos ... they explain how to do this.  You do not need VB script to do this.

  The closest video that I saw was the Record Picker.  BT9.3 does not have that.

  Is it VB you need or just to pick a record from a database? 

   

  i.e. Link the label to a database, include a query that asks is linked to the Part Number column (asking the users to enter the part number) and add field on the label that is linked to the database description field.

  Probably just picking a record from a database.

   

  I tried my version of that previously.  The end result was that a label was printed for every database entry.

   

  Using my example above.  If I inputted '1' at the printing prompt, I get a label with 'A' and another label with 'B'.  If I inputted '2' at the printing prompt, I get a label with 'A' and another label with 'B'.

  What you are describing is basic BarTender functionality ...
