I recon the later approach (serial number) is right (that's available from BarTender 2016) and cannot figure out better solution within BarTender only.

You could set your page setup to be the width of the all 6 labels and design it in such a way that the data fields printed on the correct areas.  So Bartender thinks that you are printing on one label, but you are actually printing on 6.

Thanks Shotaro for the confirmation that there is no straightforward "Repeat ... Until no data entered" way of doing things. Worth consideration for the future perhaps. Is there a formal way of submitting a feature suggestion?

Slickson - Thanks for the suggestion, it doesn't quite fit into this requirement but is something that will help me with one of my other labelling needs.

    There's feature request subforum

However - actually, your current solution is newly available since BarTender 2016.

In previous versions, you didn't have option to show form on every serial number nor on every copy.

Thanks Shotaro - I agree that my current solution is available but I don't think it is intuitive and it also requires my user to have to count the number of items they want to enter before entering them.

Ideally what I would like would be an option to keep entering data until, say, a submit print button was pressed. This would remove the need for me to have an unused serial number on the label and be, IMHO, a far more intuitive way to build the label.

But in the meantime, the serial number solution meets my needs :)

Thanks for all the help guys (Y)
