    Hello Tony,

A Code 128 symbology (which is the one you are trying to use) can encode information using three different code sets: A, B and C. The three character code sets can be summarized as follows:

Code A. The Full ASCII set, except for the 26 lower case letters.

Code B. The Full ASCII set, except for the 26 "control" characters.

Code C. Double-density numeric. This character set is numeric-only, but any one character actually represents two digits. Therefore, 100 of the 102 characters in code set C are used to represent the 100 two-character combinations from 00 through 99.

*You can find this information in BarTender's Help documentation.

Note that BarTender by default uses an "Auto" feature so it will adapt the code set in use depending on the data being encoded in the barcode.

In any case, when building a barcode following the GS1 standard you shouldn't worry about the code set, as BarTender will do that for you. Make sure to use our "GS1 application identifier data source wizard" (found in the "Symbology and Size" node of the barcode properties) and the resulting barcode will strictly follow the GS1 standard.

    Tony,

As Fernando said, you may want to confirm that you understand the specs of the code, as GS1 codes normally do not have to be manually changed to a different 128 subset, and the "Auto" will likely take care of everything.

If you want full control of the code (for this or some future application), what you do is set the "Code Set" to "Manual" in the Symbology & Size options. Then, you indicate the start of each data you want encoded a certain way with a "^C", "^B", or "^A" depending on the subset you want to use.

So your data would look like ^Cxxxxxx^Bxxxxxx

Wow, that's fantastic information, was not aware that I could do this!  Learned something new today.

Thanks everyone, I think I've got this worked out.
