    Hi tkkhaw,
I assume you've created barcode as Code 39 Full Ascii, but your scanner is set to Code 39 Regular.
Code 39 regular character set includes the digits 0-9, the letters A-Z (upper case only), and the following symbols: space, minus (-), plus (+), period (.), dollar sign ($), slash (/), and percent (%). If that covers all characters you use, change symobology to "Code 39 Regular" in BarTender (recommended.)
Otherwise, change the scanner setting to read Code 39 Full Ascii(not recommended - consider use Code128 barcode, instead.)

Note that Most of Code39 barcodes around are code 39 Regular, so most of scanner is set to regular as default.
I don't know there's any scanner automatically detect either Regular or Full Ascii.
