Print With 1 Format Shared Between 2 Bar Tender Sessions.

Hi All,

I'm not sure if this can be done, however, I have a situation where 1 label format needs to be shared between 2 sessions of Bar Tender.

 

We have 2 sites (both are registered versions of Bar Tender) that access a central server. Currently, they each use a label format which contains a "product code + Serialised number". A future problem I can see, is this serialised number could be duplicated.

 

Is there a way to share one format between the 2 sites (on the central server)? Or is this going to cause conflict with Bar Tender, if it tries to use a file which is already open?

  A recent BarTender v10.1 feature we've added will cover your needs. We've called this "Global Data Fields" and they can be stored in a central database which is also used by BarTender for print job logging purposes. As you will need to connect to a central BarTender System database, the Enterprise Automation Edition will be required. Further information can be found in this White Paper:

  As a different solution, you could use VBScript to store the serial number into a text file, which can then be accessed by the 2 BarTender documents, but you will need to make sure that while 1 BT document is reading / updating the serial number, that the 2nd BT document doesn't try to read / update the same value...

  Thanks Domingo. I'll have a look at both approaches. While I like the first idea (using Global Data Fields), unfortunately, we appear to have a mixed collection of Bar Tender versions here, from v7.51 to v10, over 4 sites. An upgrade maybe possible, but, I'll see what the business want in that case  :)

   

  The second option is possible, based of the mixed collection we have. From a geek perspective, I'd like to try something like that, but I might use another method to generate the ID value (such as a SQL Express table).
