Multiple Products, Same Sn Sequence Without Database

I am new to Bartender and was trying to create multiple files that will use the same SN sequence without having to set up a database. For example I have 2 products and print SN 1-5 for product 1 and I want to be able to open the file for either product 1 or product 2 and have the next SN start at 6. I don't want to set up a database because I want this to be continuous and not have to update other files. In the actual application I have about 20 products and they all have a different label that indicates the part number and serial number on it.

I would also like to be able to export the list of printed serial numbers and the product (text field) with the creation date into excel. I need to keep records of all created serial numbers.

Any tips of how to do this?

  I can see mainly two ways of doing this:
  
  1. You could work with a single BarTender document using several templates which share a serialized data source (feature only available in v10).
  
  2. Another option would be to share the serial number between different BarTender documents, this can be done through a VB SCript loading the last printed serial number to a text file, which will then be consulted from other documents. I'm attaching two documents as an example.
  
  3. BarTender offers the possiblity to log the printed information to a text file or to the BarTender System database, although the BarTender Automation edition or higher is needed.
