Two Character Prefix
Hi All,I am new using BarTender, so this might be a noob question.
Our customer wants us to add a prefix in the barcode in order for them to identify the data that they are reading.
For example, for the barcode Part Number has a prefix of "P". So the barcode would read P123456. The human readable remains 123456.
I was able to figure out how to add a prefix using the option in the Data Source tab. However, when the prefix data identifier uses two(2) characters, I do not know how to prevent the human readable alpha/numeric to display the data identifier. For example the Pack List barcode has a data identifier of "2S" followed by the packing list number. The human readable part of the barcode displays the "S" of the "2S". So a packlist number of 123456 will display S123456.
Is there a way that I can setup the barcode to indicate that the prefix data identifier is two characters that should not be displayed as human readable? I tried to search for solution in this forum but I can't find a topic.
Anyone helps and suggestion are truly appreciated.

It's best if you configure the "Data Source" dialog so that it is in "Advanced" mode. In this format you will see on the left that you are able to create multiple sub-strings for the data of your barcode. Create a separate sub-string for the prefix and part number, rather than using the prefix item in the "More Options" dialog. You'll note that in the human readable tab of the barcode object properties that it is possible to make visible or not the data on a per sub-string basis.

Ian, thanks for the help. It looks like the ability to control the human readable substring display is only allowed in Trial version. I currently have Basic version, this is why it was not showing unless I turn on the trial version. I hate to upgrade just to enable my ability to have two character prefix data identifier. Is there another option rather than for me to spend another 150usd just for this ability?

Your only hope is if you disable the human readable in the barcode and then create it as a separate text object which contains just a duplicate serial number. Note that if you prompt the user to enter in the start serial number this approach will result in two separate text input prompt controls. If this fails to cover your needs, then an upgrade to the Professional edition will be required. 0
