8.01 V 9.4 Bartender Ean/jan-13

Hi All,

I have a question that I hope somebody can help me with. We are currently in the process of using bartender 8.01 to print off EAN/JAN-13 labels from a text file generated by an application. The first line of the text file starts with a 'PRINT_START' in every field (comma seperated file) and the last line of the file contain a 'PRINT_END' in every field.

we had no issues with a file like this when printing the EAN/JAN-13 barcode in batender 8.01. However we have tried to duplicate the setup using bartender 9.4 and we are getting an 2 error messages when trying to print off the labels stating:

"the following error was encountered while encoding bar code object "Bar Code 1" with data "PRINT_START": The data source has invalid characters for the selected symbology."

"the following error was encountered while encoding bar code object "Bar Code 1" with data "PRINT_START": The data source does not have enough digits for GTIN"

we have compared all settings in v9.4 against v8.01 and there doesnt seem to be any difference in the set up. does anyone know why there is a differnece in versions and has anyone got a solution to resolve/get around this issue??

  In Bartender 9.4, we more strictly comply to the Barcode standard. You can either put in the 12 digits and let Bartender calculate the 13th correct check digit for you or you might need to put the correct 13 digits into barcode source. If you put the wrong 13th check digit, Bartender will show red cross and warning you the error. Do you mind sharing us what 13 digits you put in EAN/JAN13?

  Thanks for your help. I think I may have found a way around this. I have kept the file the same, with the JAN/EAN-13 barcode on the label assigned to the database text file. I then went onto properties -- datasources-- more -- validation -- and selected the 'Numeric only' option. On the same window there is a check box which indicates whether you want an error message to appear. I unchecked this box and it all seems to work - direct printing through bartender and also through commander.
  
  It still shows a red cross in the barcode on the label design screen, but when I print the file there are no pop up error messages appearing and it simply removes the barcode from the 'PRINT_START' label, allowing me to print off the labels I need without issue.
  
  We are experiencing another issue however. we have 1 label which is printing off the 1st database field added to the label. for instance if we add 'Customer purchase order number' first to the label it will print off the 'Customer purchase order number' in all other database fields. If we remove all information and add the carton quantity on first it will print the carton quantity in all other database fields that have been added to the label.
