    Hello Linda,

When you look at the printed bar code, does the human readable part look correct (with the spaces)? If it does look correct but when scanning the bar code no spaces appear, this would be a configuration problem of the scanner. Make sure that the bar code scanner is properly set to scan Code 39 (Regular or Full ASCII) bar codes.

If the problem doesn't appear at design time in BarTender but later appears when looking at the human readable part of the printed bar code, this could be a problem of the printer driver in use or of the way the bar code is being rendered.

1.- In BarTender, double click on the Bar Code object, select the "Bar Code" tab and now press the "Print Method..." button if it's available. Choose now to render the bar code and the human readable part by BarTender (this is the second option) and try printing again to see if the problem still appears.

2.- Otherwise, let me know which printer make and model is in use, which printer driver (and version) you've installed for this printer and also which BarTender Edition, Version and Build is in use.

    Linda,

Could you provide a download link to your format? (To forum techs - it is possible to upload right to my post? I've seen techs do it but I can't find an obvious link while posting.)

If you or someone in the office has a smartphone, you could try using a downloadable barcode scanning app to scan your barcode as well. This would narrow down the issue between a scanner issue and printer/software issue.

    Hi Domingo,

The human readable part of the barcode as you view it in Bartender does *not* contain the spaces, however, the sample dialog box when you go into the properties of the barcode object does. When I scan the printed barcode it scans without spaces but I suspect it's because of the format on the label, not an issue with the scanner.

Just to clarify. The problem is not with scanning, it's with design time formatting of the human readable number which appears above the barcode. Perhaps I have put this under the wrong heading?? I assumed that the barcode when scanned should also appear with spaces but I am going to double check this with the customer.

I have tried option 1 above and it didn't make any difference to the barcode, either when you view it on the screen in human readable format nor when you print.

The versions I am running are:

    Bartender Application:
    Enterprise Automation
    Version 9.4
    Build 2749
    Running on Windows XP (SP3)

    Printer Driver:
    Zebra R110Xi HF (203 DPI)
    Zebra ZPL-II Driver
    Version 7.2.1
    Target: Win 32

If it helps I can email the barcode format for you to view, as suggested by nRyder.
