Multiple Labels On Data Entry Form
Hello,
I am new to Data Entry Forms so this may be amazingly simple.
I would like to have several label formats available on a single data entry form.
In other words: I'd like the user's first choice to be which label format he will print. The label printer and label size will remain the same but what will change is the fields on the label and where they appear on the label.
After that I'll present prompts to the user to populate those fields but he must choose a label format first.

Dynamic Data Entry Forms (having a second choice resulting of a first choice) is not yet available from BarTender. It is a feature requested for new versions but I do not have a schedule to communicate on such a feature.
If you need to have such a form, you will have to design it directly in .NET or Active X using our SDKs.

Perhaps our new "Multiple templates per document" and "Multiple layers per template" will help you to set the label you want.
Templates, layers, objects and data sources can be conditionally printed by a data source or database field value.

Multiple templates seems like the best choice when any one print job could have a need to print more than one artwork option. The possible negative is that data fields seemingly need to be duplicated between templates - for example, a complex VBscript element, or RFID objects would require duplication between templates. Correct me if I'm wrong on that.
To avoid object and/or script duplication, I prefer the layers approach where only one of the possible artwork layouts would be printed for any given print job. Controlling which layer is printed is easy. But, I can't say that I've found a way to script the 'visibility' of a layer based on a data source or condition. If the template is password controlled, then the user generally won't be given template design modification control - eliminating their ability to manually set layer visibility on/off. The only way I've found to handle this is to either hide one layer from the users view (in the Design window), or to show both in the Design View, but change the transparency of one layer to be lighter in color than the other layer. Visually, this is messy in the Design View, but at least it distinguishes between the two separate artworks. And during print or print preview, the user will only see one layer or the other.
Nice work on these options Seagull. I especially like the addition of multiple input forms in BT2016.
