There are several methods available to automate BarTender from your Dynamics application:

Firstly please take a look at our general integration white papers:
    http://www.bartenderbarcodesoftware.com/label-software/whitepapers/Barcode-and-Label-Software-Integration-Methods(English).pdf

    1. You could use our ActiveX component.
    http://www.bartenderbarcodesoftware.com/label-software/whitepapers/Controlling-Barcode-Label-Software-using-ActiveX-Automation.pdf

    2. We also offer our .NET SDKs.

    3. You could also automate BarTender through a Command line interface.

    4. And finally you could always use our middle ware application Commander (below you'll find links for the Commander white papers and for some examples):

Our environment is Bar Tender 10.1; Dynamics AX 2012; and a middleware Kurt Halevik's BarTender Integration which we are stil implementing. I'm a bit mystified why the Bartender prompt mechanism doesn't appear when the template is called from AX. Is there some API feature that enables or suppresses the prompt box from appearing on the client station?

    Thanks.

Could you please clarify if you are automating BarTender from within a service or is it running as an application?

    - If the former (service) you won't be able to make it prompt as services cannot interact with users. This is a Windows limitation and there is no other way around it.

    - If the latter (running as an application) you are maybe running BarTender under a different account from the one you are logged in? Or maybe the application hasn't been set to "visible"?

    Regards.

Integration of Dynamics AX 2012 with different e-commerce platforms is difficult, however, there are services that can actually provide with the services that are really helpful when it comes to providing these services. You can check out http://dynamics.folio3.com/ for integration services of Dynamics AX 2012 with magento, shopify and woocommerce

I dont know a lot about Dynamics 2012, but have linked into earlier Dynamics connecting into the SQL tables via the database connection. Looking at the info on the net this may not be possible for 2012 and so you may need to look at using Integration Builder and automating exporting "trigger" files with the data (and associated label/printer information if required) that the deployed integration will pick up, process and print for you..

I would suggest you speak to your regional Seagull office and see if they can put you in touch with a local BarTender reseller who has the necessary integration experience to help you with this.

To close this gap, users will have to commit a significant amount of time and money, and the various ways that users and partners adopt will generate new long-term difficulties for ownership of AX solutions MMC Global

Integrating BarTender with Dynamics AX 2012 can be tricky because AX handles data and automation differently compared to ERP systems like Oracle or SAP. The best approach is to use one of BarTender’s supported integration methods such as ActiveX, .NET SDK, command-line automation, or a middleware tool like Commander. Many users also rely on third-party integration builders or custom middleware to send trigger files from AX to BarTender for printing labels like UPC-A or EAN-12.

Since AX 2012 doesn’t always support direct SQL connections for printing workflows, consulting a BarTender reseller or a Dynamics specialist is often the easiest way to get a stable integration. If your business is already working with external systems, partnering with a mobile app development agency can also help you build custom tools or automations that bridge AX, BarTender, and other platforms smoothly.
