Live Data
In the past I have used Bartender to print from an excel sheet. I had data moving in when the operator finished a batch. I was using Commander also to trigger on a data change. The problem was Bartender kept looking at the same excel sheet and printed the old data. I had to have a programmer assist me in writing code to open and close excel to get the new data each time. We got it working but had to write a bit of code to do it. I am moving data in 3 fields of numbers from a plc every time a batch is complete. The operator presses the print button, the data moves to excel, then commander triggers the print. I am wondering if there is a better way of doing this using a different data source which could make it clean and simple.

Excel isn't the best database to use for that type of work, because it isn't designed for multiple programs to "talk" to it at once. That is really what relational databases are for, such as Microsoft SQL Server. You can use the free version Microsoft SQL Server Express to store the data, if you're using the BarTender System Database you already have it installed.
BarTender 2016 has the ability to automatically trigger when data is changed in a database in the new Integration Builder application that replaces Commander. However, if you use Excel you would still probably have the same problem with the data change not being detected until you close Excel.

Thanks for your help. I will look into a way of bringing in Allen Bradley Controllogix tags into a sql server, then use the Bar Tender 2016 automation version.
