VideoJet CLARiSOFT DATAFILE Support
Clarisoft in connection with VideoJet printers provides functionality to include a list of predefined promotion codes (lottery numbers) for consumer packages. In this case a special counter field is added to the layout (Global Counter 14) and a data file is downloaded to the printer unit. With every print request from the packing machine the printer "consumes" one number from the data file and inserts it into the layout.
When all the numbers are consumed, the print stops.
Does anybody know, if this feature can be used through BarTender?

I am not aware you can configure it the same but there would be a way to do it with BarTender.
You could set the list of promo codes as a database and link a field on the label to this. Using the print the whole database option (Selected Records : All) would send the correct label files to the print as and when the printer is triggered to print the next label

Thanks for your continued support and advice, Peter Thane :-)
Unfortunately this is not an option, this would require major re-engineering of the printers and packing machines. We are talking about the Best Before Date print on consumer packets (Crisps), these packing machines run at anything between 50 and 120 bags a minute. I cannot build a communication cycle into that. Unless I misunderstood your suggestion and the data table would be sent together with the layout.
Normally we only send the layout at the beginning of a production order and the data remains the same (BBD, Lot, machine id, ...) throughout the production run. In this case we need one data field to change for every bag, based on a list of predefined codes.

Unless I misunderstood your suggestion and the data table would be sent together with the layout >>> No I meant you link the label to the data table with the codes as a database and use the Print All for the record selection and so a label will be created for each record and them all sent to the printer. As I assume you are controlling when the actual labels are printed, the label formats will sit in the printers memory until the printer gets the command/signal to print the next one.

Ok, I got it now: Based on the number of records (codes), I would send a print document (label) for each record with the code embedded, but this could be several thousand documents. I need to run some tests regarding the memory of the printers and the implications for the change-over process in production.
As always, much obliged!

Are the numbers sequential?
I haven't got a videojet print driver installed but with some models of printer BarTender can used the advance features and send a command string to the printer to print X number of labels starting from say 100 and then incrementing the number as it prints them. That way the file sent to the print is almost the same size as a standard label and the print engine itself controls the sequential number field.

No, unfortunately the numbers are not sequential, the samples I saw look more like a GUID format. No idea how they are generated, but I will talk to the responsible people about those codes and see if we can find a middle ground between pre-generating ALL of the codes and using some printer functionality.
But I have a few ideas now and if I find a good solution I'll let you know :-)
Thanks for your help!
